ABOUT
The Red Wing Pecos collection was introduced in 1953 and became popular with farmers, ranchers and oil rig workers. They combine the design of a western boot with the toughness of a Red Wing work boot.
STYLE NO. 8168: PECOS
The 8168 is from our Pecos western boot collection, with a touch of our iconic design added in Hawthorne 'Abilene' Roughout, Traction Tred Cushion Crepe Wedge, Goodyear welt construction and triple stitched quality. A Red Wing quality work boot in western styling.
THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE
The American cowboy has a long-standing tradition of wearing boots incorporating a western design for both functionality and appeal. During the era of the cattle drive in the United States, ranchers began looking for a practical and durable style of boot. They needed something to protect their ankles and legs while in the saddle, and to protect from course brush and snakes while dismounted. High quality leather was sought for durability and a slip-on design was preferred for convenience. The Red Wing Pecos collection was introduced in 1953 and became popular with farmers, ranchers and oil rig workers. They combine the design of a western boot with the toughness of a Red Wing work boot.
MATERIALS
Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery.
ROUGHOUT LEATHER
Roughout leather is created using a reverse-suede technique at our very own S.B. Foot Tanning Co. While most tanneries split, thin and weaken the hide to create the rough suede surface, we simply use the other side of the hide. By doing so, we avoid splitting or thinning our full-grain hides. This makes our Roughout leather just as strong and durable as our other leathers.

17
A last is a form shaped similarly to that of a human foot and is used by shoemakers to determine the size, toe box and heel height for the finished shoe.
SIZING & BREAK IN
In order to build a Red Wing boot to an exact size and width, the boot is constructed around a shoe last.
STYLE NO. 8168: PECOS
A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.
THE 8168 IS BUILT USING THE NO. 17 LAST:
A last is used in shoemaking to give footwear its three-dimensional shape. Resembling the human foot, the last determines critical toe, heel and girth dimensions for fit, style and function.
  • Features a laceless design, requiring careful sizing
  • Fits true to size
